The Taney County Expressway project has been discussed and considered for numerous years. The need for this connection that completes the road network is documented in the "Intermodal Transportation Study for Stone County, Taney County and the City of Branson" that was written in 1995. The "Taney County Master Plan - 1999" prepared by the Southwest Missouri Council of Governments, the regional planning organization, also reiterates the dire need for the road to be built. Both of these documents reference capacity issues related to Highway 76 between Branson and Forsyth and both studies documented the need for capacity and safety improvements.
"the Future Roadway Plan has significant changes that will help the Taney County roadway system accommodate future growth and development…"
These studies also included an evaluation of the "Future Roadway Plan". An excerpt from the Intermodal Transportation Study states, "the Future Roadway Plan has significant changes that will help the Taney County roadway system accommodate future growth and development…" and "...another major new road should be a collector located south of Hollister." It should also be noted that the proposed Taney County Expressway has been discussed and supported by Taney County as well as the cities of Branson and Hollister since the need was first identified. Lack of available funding for a project of this size has prevented it from becoming a reality.
